JUNE 20th - Royal Festival Hall, London UK (Meltdown festival)

(thank you very much Hegs for the scans and the review!!)

With regard to the gig - they absolutely rocked. The venue was an all seater but the first thing that Michael did was to encourage everyone to get up and feel free to boogie. Our seats were pretty poor up in the balcony, but that didn't detract too much from the experience. Michael opened with an acapella version of "Skin on the Drum". That blew everyone away and set the scene for an hour and 10 minutes of beautiful music & poetry. I didn't note down a complete track list but the set included:

What I Be

Pray For Grace

Sometimes

Bomb the World

Stay Human

Every Single Soul

Taxi Radio

Never Too Late

Also he borrowed a small bit of Marvin Gaye, Whats Going on, but with a twist - "Simply cause our dreads are long" - I loved it. Radioactive amazed me with his human beatbox - especially the trombone session - fantastic. DJ Spooky assisted on some of the tracks by dropping some beats. Overall it was a great gig - certainly as good as any of the other times I have been lucky to see them ... but ... it was all too short. It was a three band night so time was understandably limited. The venue has a late bar so afterwards we had a couple of beers and got chatting with some really nice people who also had a great time. Anyhow, it has left me wanting more so as soon as the nightbus got me home I booked tickets for Brighton on Wednesday.
